{"id":1152,"date":"2020-01-24T10:40:52","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T17:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghostinthepixel.com\/?p=1152"},"modified":"2020-01-24T10:40:52","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T17:40:52","slug":"three-words-for-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghostinthepixel.com\/?p=1152","title":{"rendered":"Three words for 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m kickstarting a new tradition to commence this new year (2020) that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s borrowed from my master\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s thesis at Carnegie Mellon \u00e2\u20ac\u201d nearly 20 years ago! Instead of trying to trying to massively survey anything and everything on a topic, simply select three words as the cornerstone of analysis, the intersections of which form the basis of a theme. So instead of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153resolutions\u00e2\u20ac\u009d per se, which we know often fail for reasons, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve decided to focus on three interrelated concepts or words that pertain in various ways to my life \u00e2\u20ac\u201d at home and at the office \u00e2\u20ac\u201d to give me a focus for exploration and deepen understanding, or utility of them. This year I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve selected <em>ambiguity<\/em>, <em>synthesis<\/em>, and <em>resilience<\/em>. Let me explain\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Ambiguity<\/strong>: there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a great deal of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153not knowing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153not understanding\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the ever-changing rhythms of work and life, and thus learning how to roll with the inevitable punches (or flow with the turbulent tides) becomes vital. And in some instances, ambiguity can become a moment for creativity and resourcefulness\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Synthesis<\/strong>: Steve Jobs famously said that creativity is simply \u00e2\u20ac\u0153connecting things\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d correlating moments of inspiration, data points, lessons, conversations, tools, etc. to arrive at a better understanding or informed intuition. How for can synthesis go, what are the limits, how can this become a way of navigating ambiguity perhaps?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Resilience<\/strong>: Setbacks, mistakes, failures, and just plain awkward \u00e2\u20ac\u0153oops\u00e2\u20ac\u009d moments are inevitable when pursuing something new or difficult (or dealing with a new thing thrown at you!) \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and must be respected as such. Being able and willing to bounce back stronger and more confident. Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable is a big aspect, too. What does resilience look like, and how it can be manifest in micro and macro forms?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As events happen and situations\/conditions evolve throughout the year, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be applying these three words accordingly and post accordingly as to the progress of this approach.
